Tourists should have passports valid for 6 months after their entry to Singapore, onward or return tickets, onward facilities to their next destination and sufficient funds for their stay in Singapore. If longer stay is needed please contact the Singapore High Commission before arrival or the Singapore Immigration and Registration after arrival.


Tips on Tipping

Tipping is not encouraged as most hotels and restaurants in Singapore place a 10% service charge on customers' bills. Tipping is not a way of life in Singapore and is prohibited at the Airport.


Hotel Rates and Reservations

Most major credit cards are accepted. Please note that when booking hotel accommodation where rates are quoted in Singapore dollars, you may be subjected to a 10% service charge plus 3% Goods and Services Tax, and 1% cess.  



The local currency is the Singapore dollar. Notes come in denominations of SGD 1, SGD 2, SGD 5, SGD 10, SGD 20, SGD 50, SGD 100, SGD 500, SGD 1000, SGD 10000. Coins come in denominations of SGD 1 and 1,5,10,20 and 50 cents. Foreign currencies can be changed in either banks or at a moneychanger. 



Singapore voltage is 220 - 240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. On request, most hotels will provide adaptors to visitors with electrical appliances of a different voltage. When shopping for electrical appliances, do remember to check the voltage of the item against the acceptable voltage in your home country. 



Singapore's population is approximately 4 million and consists of 76% Chinese, 14% Malay, 7% Indian and 3% Eurasian and other races. The main religions practiced are Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Christianity. 



Singapore's Changi International Airport has two terminals that provide many modern amenities including supermarkets, banks, moneychangers, medical serviced, left/unaccompanied baggage, electronic lockers, fitness centre, laundry services, food and beverage outlets, retail shops, free city tour desk for passengers in transit for a minimum of 5 hours and transit facilities
